Greener road freight in focus
Li Shufu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of Geely Holding Group, has continued to focus on key issues facing the automotive industry during this year's national two sessions.
The Government Work Report this year called for advancing carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, building a new power system, accelerating smart grid construction, developing new energy storage, and expanding the use of green electricity. The application of green energy in transportation is one of the areas Li has been paying close attention to, particularly in the road freight sector, a major source of carbon emissions.
Li said methanol-electric trucks show clear advantages in long-distance freight transport or routes that are not fixed. Such vehicles can reduce operating costs and allow quick and convenient fuel refilling. He added that they also perform reliably in extremely cold weather in northern regions, making them suitable for a wide range of freight scenarios.
He suggested prioritizing the promotion of methanol-electric commercial trucks in the transportation sector and building methanol refueling facilities along major logistics corridors. By allowing cleaner freight vehicles to operate first on key routes, he said, it would be possible to gradually form demonstration corridors for greener road freight.
