Zhejiang's key retail and catering enterprises recorded total sales of 2.49 billion yuan ($366.15 million) during the May Day holiday, up 5.0 percent year-on-year, accelerating 2.8 percentage points from the same period in 2025, according to the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province.

This year's holiday coincided with spring break for primary and secondary school students, prompting more than 100 scenic spots and museums to offer over 150 discount initiatives.

New supply also stimulated urban spending. Before the holiday, Hangzhou's Westlake 66 began trial operations, hosting more than 80 Zhejiang- or Hangzhou-first stores. During the holiday, daily foot traffic exceeded 160,000.

Across the province, 640 performances, competitions, and themed events were held, driving a 6.0 percent increase in sales of sports and entertainment products.

Yiwu in Jinhua promoted a combined sightseeing and in-depth shopping model, attracting 3.3 million visits during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of more than 20 percent.

Wenzhou Garden Expo Park staged over 150 activities, with daily visits exceeding 300,000.
