Zhoushan fishing firms deliver aid to Angola flood-hit areas
Three Zhoushan-based fishing companies — Zhejiang Julong Ocean Fishing, Wanfestao-KP, and Zhoushan Haideli Ocean Fisheries — organized emergency relief efforts for flood-affected areas in Angola from May 9 to 12, delivering more than 111 metric tons of supplies to local communities after severe rainfall caused widespread damage in Benguela Province in April.
Shen An, chairman of Zhoushan Haideli Ocean Fisheries, said the company responded immediately after learning of the disaster during a fisheries meeting in Angola on April 28. He added that the firm had operated in Angola for years and felt a responsibility to assist nearby communities in the aftermath of the disaster.
The company suspended warehouse operations in Angola to free up storage space for relief supplies, while staff members traveled throughout Luanda, Angola's capital, and neighboring countries to purchase essential materials.
Zhoushan has longstanding ties with Angola's fishing industry, with several local enterprises investing in offshore fishery operations in recent years. Haideli established a joint venture in Angola in 2020 with an investment exceeding 80 million yuan ($11.76 million) and currently operates a fishing base and seven trawlers in the country.
Chinese Ambassador to Angola Zhang Bin said that Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese groups in Angola had provided substantial emergency assistance, reflecting the close ties between the two sides during the relief efforts.
