Jinhua clinches inaugural Wuyue Cup

Jinhua triumphed 6-5 in a tense penalty shootout over Wenzhou at the 2026 Zhejiang Provincial City Football League (Wuyue Cup) finals on June 11 at Hangzhou's Huanglong Sports Center. Captivating 42,027 spectators, the final match for the inaugural Wuyue Cup title ended in a draw at full time, but Jinhua eventually emerged victorious among the pool of 11 provincial teams.
The Wuyue Cup, centered on city pride and community involvement, featured 619 local amateur players, with 44.6 percent being students. Spanning two months, the tournament featured 55 matches.
Jinhua was the youngest team with an average age of 21.5, showcasing impressive agility and stamina. However, Wenzhou consisted of 98.3 percent local players, reflecting strong city loyalty.
Both teams finished the points stage with identical records of six wins, two draws, and two losses, ranking third and fourth. Their first encounter also ended 1-1, foreshadowing a fierce final.
Organized by the Zhejiang Football Association, the tournament was divided to two periods. From April 6 to late May, teams competed in a single round-robin format under a home-and-away system, with each of the 11 city teams playing 10 matches. The top eight teams advanced to a knockout stage from late May to mid-June, culminating in the final.
