Zero-carbon China-Europe freight train arrives in Yiwu
The first "zero-carbon" China-Europe freight train in the Yangtze River Delta region arrived at Yiwuxi Railway Station on June 24, after departing from Duisburg, Germany, on June 6, carrying 78 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of European imports such as coffee, baby food, and auto parts.
The train was developed by Yiwu Timex Industrial Investment, the operator of the "Yixinou" China-Europe freight service, in collaboration with DB Cargo Eurasia GmbH. It has received European low-carbon transport certification, is powered by green electricity, and achieves zero carbon emissions for the entire transport distance through the carbon offset mechanism of the GS standard, an internationally recognized carbon credit certification system.
This train marks a new phase of green, low-carbon operations for Zhejiang's China-Europe freight service. A representative from Timex said that with the European Union's "carbon tariff" and green supply chain verification rules being implemented, the transition to low-carbon and green practices in international trade and cross-border logistics is becoming a major trend.
The "zero-carbon" train establishes a closed-loop management system for carbon emission data and carbon credit certification during transportation, promising significant ecological and social benefits if operated regularly.
