The Wuzhen-Shimen Tourism Resort in Tongxiang, a county-level city in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, has seen a surge in domestic and international visitors this summer. Its water towns, cultural events, and family-focused activities are drawing tourists seeking a relaxed escape.

The resort covers 38.29 square kilometers and links the ancient water towns of Wuzhen and Shimen along the Baimatang River, a tributary of the Grand Canal.

From January to June, Wuzhen town received 262,300 inbound visits via travel agencies, up 67 percent year-on-year. Wuzhen has expanded its summer offerings to include water activities, street performances, and evening shows. Additionally, the Wuzhen Theatre Festival's popular performances are scheduled from July 13 to Aug 23, featuring artists from around the world.

The resort is also strengthening family tourism and educational experiences. In the Wucun core area of the resort, visitors can take part in farming activities, traditional handicrafts, and science programs, while Shimen offers attractions such as the Zikai Cartoon Village, where more than 20 new businesses have opened.

To enhance convenience, Tongxiang now offers luggage collection and two-way transfer services within the airport's restricted area, connecting airports, attractions, and hotels. Wuzhen's "scenic area terminal" allows visitors arriving at Jiaxing Nanhu Airport to have their luggage sent directly to the resort.

As inbound tourism grows, Wuzhen has also expanded its multilingual services, foreign-exchange facilities, and assistance for international visitors.
