Zhejiang province raised its typhoon emergency response to Level I at 8 pm on Aug 27 as Typhoon Saudel approached the Zhejiang coast.

Saudel made its first landfall in Yuhuan, Taizhou, at around 8:05 am on Aug 28, with maximum sustained winds of 35 meters per second near its center. It made a second landfall in Wenzhou at around 9:10 am, with maximum sustained winds of 33 meters per second.

Authorities urged areas severely affected by the typhoon to suspend outdoor activities, work, classes, business operations, and transport services when necessary.

Large and medium-sized reservoirs across the province released 519 million cubic meters of water from Aug 25 to 27 to increase flood-storage capacity.

A red alert for geological disaster risks was also issued for parts of Wenzhou, Taizhou, and Lishui.
