Ten athletes from Ningbo have been selected for China's national teams at the 20th Asian Games, set to open on Sept 19 in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, with athletes from across Asia competing in 469 events across 43 sports.

Athletics will feature the most Ningbo athletes, with four competitors.

At just 18, javelin thrower Yan Ziyi is one of China's brightest track and field stars this season, having won four consecutive Diamond League titles in Xiamen, Oslo, Paris, and Monaco. At the Xiamen meet in May, she threw 71.74 meters to shatter the Asian record, putting her among the top favorites for gold in Nagoya.

Sprinter Chen Yujie is also attracting attention. She won the women's 100 meters at the 2026 National Athletics Championships in 11.08 seconds, improving her personal best and breaking her own Asian U20 record.

Discus thrower Wu Nanjun and 400m specialist Ding Wenhao will also represent China in athletics.

Ningbo will also be represented by swimmers Wang Shun and Yu Yiting, windsurfer Yan Zheng, badminton player Wang Chang, climber Zhou Yafei, and footballer Wang Yudong. Gymnast Xie Chenyi is listed as an alternate.

Wang Shun, 32, will make his fifth Asian Games appearance, aiming for a third consecutive gold in the men's 200m individual medley. Yu Yiting is another strong medal contender after setting an Asian record in the women's 200m individual medley this June.

Fresh from winning his first world championship title in men's doubles, badminton star Wang Chang is also one to watch, while Wang Yudong will join China's U23 men's football team.
