Quzhou Port in Zhejiang province handled about 6.37 million metric tons of cargo from January to July this year, a 15.1 percent increase year-on-year, leading the province in growth. It is expected to reach 12 million tons by year-end, enhancing its status as an inland port hub and boosting Quzhou's economy.

Waterway transport offers significant savings. Previously, coal from Russia was trucked from Wenzhou Port to factories. Now, it is shipped to Zhapu Port, then via inland vessels to the Qujiang port area, with a short road transfer. This method saves 3 to 12 yuan ($0.45 to $1.79) per ton compared to road transport alone.

Water transport requires only one ship and a few crew members, while road transport requires over 30 trucks and drivers to handle an equivalent freight volume.

In 2022, Quzhou Port's throughput was about 5.7 million tons; by 2025, it had surpassed 10.57 million tons, indicating that more companies are enjoying cost benefits.
