Zhejiang athletes win record 5 track and field golds at Asian Games

Seven track and field athletes from Zhejiang province won five gold and two silver medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking the province's best-ever performance in the sport as competition concluded on Sept 29.

The athletes also set one Asian record, broke two Games records, and established one national record.

Chen Yujie, 17, led Zhejiang's medal haul with three golds and one silver across four events.

In the women's 100m final, Chen clocked 11.06 seconds to win gold, breaking the Games record by 0.09 seconds. She also anchored China's mixed 4x100m relay team to victory, overcoming Thailand's lead on the final leg to secure gold in 40.78 seconds, setting an Asian record in the event's Asian Games debut.

Chen added another gold in the women's 4x100m relay and a silver in the 200m.

Other gold medals came from Yan Ziyi, who won the women's javelin with a Games-record throw of 70.46 meters, and Xie Zhenye, who helped China defend its men's 4x100m relay title in 38.17 seconds.

Wu Nanjun earned silver in the men's discus with a throw of 61.58 meters, while Xi Xiaoheng finished fourth in the men's 800m with a national-record time of 1 minute, 45.46 seconds. Ding Wenhao helped China finish fifth in the men's 4x400m relay, while Dai Qianqian placed sixth in the women's javelin.
