A total of 34 athletes from Zhejiang province have been selected for China's delegation to the fifth Asian Para Games, scheduled for Oct 18 to 24 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The Zhejiang athletes will compete in 10 sports, including para swimming, goalball, para archery, para powerlifting, para athletics, para badminton, para taekwondo, para judo, wheelchair basketball, and sitting volleyball.

The lineup includes experienced Paralympic and Asian Para Games champions such as Jiang Yuyan and Tan Yujiao, alongside newcomers Wang Liya and Li Zhixin.

Zhejiang athletes will seek strong results in traditionally competitive sports such as swimming, archery, and powerlifting. They will also play key roles in China's men's and women's goalball teams.

China announced its 500-member delegation in Beijing on Oct 10. The delegation includes 312 athletes from 25 provincial-level regions, with an average age of 28.8. They will compete in 335 events across 17 sports, making this China's largest athlete contingent for an Asian Para Games held overseas.

The Games will feature 502 events across 18 sports, with more than 3,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions expected to participate.

At the delegation's launch ceremony, Tan spoke on behalf of the athletes, pledging to demonstrate teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship.
