The Qiaochuifang Workshop — China-Africa Woodcarving Handcraft Creation Exchange Program is underway at the Huang Xiaoming Woodcarving Museum in Dongyang, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, bringing together 12 African woodcarving artists from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

Running from Oct 19 to Nov 3, the program is part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

Named after Chui, a legendary craftsman in ancient China, the workshop is a continuing platform promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to advance mutual learning between China and Africa.

At the museum, artists compare carving techniques and share creative ideas. Drawing on Dongyang woodcarving's rich intangible cultural heritage, the program aims to build a platform for two-way exchange and co-creation, letting African artists experience traditional Chinese craft and promoting mutual understanding.

The artists said they have already gained a lot from the exchange and learned many Chinese techniques through discussions with Huang Xiaoming, a master of Chinese arts and crafts. They also praised the intelligent design of Chinese carving tools.
