Chint advances greener transformer technology
Chint Group has developed a 750-kilovolt transformer that uses biodegradable, plant-based natural ester insulating oil, improving fire safety and overload capacity while reducing the environmental risks of leaks.
The company has a scale model of the transformer on display at its innovation experience center in Binjiang district, Hangzhou. Reporters visited the center ahead of the eighth World Zhejiang Entrepreneurs Convention, which opens in the city on Nov 6.
Conventional large transformers generally use mineral insulating oil, which can contaminate soil and water if it leaks. In offshore settings, such leaks can spread pollution rapidly.
Products in the related transformer series are already in use in more than 20 countries and regions.
Chint is also developing technologies for zero-carbon industrial parks, direct green electricity supply, virtual power plants, and AI data centers. Combining AI, the Internet of Things, and big data, the group is expanding its energy solutions across a business network spanning more than 140 countries and regions.
