Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province, will be home to five competition venues and a football training venue for the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou 2022. The number of competitions to be held here is second only to the host city.

The designs of the baseball and climbing venues have now been unveiled, local media reported on Nov 5.

The Baseball-Softball Center for the 2022 Asian Games will cover about 160,000 square meters, making it the largest international-standard baseball-softball field in the country.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2021, with a total investment of around 1.8 billion yuan (about $254 million).

Located on the border between Keqiao and Yuecheng districts, it will also function as a baseball-themed sports park for locals.

According to the municipal sports bureau, construction of the baseball venue got underway in June and it will be completed by October 2021, while the climbing venue is expected to open by the same time.

The climbing venue will look like a silkworm cocoon, as the city is known as the capital of China's textile industry.

Covering an area of over 10,000 square meters, the venue is only 24 meters in height. "We adopted a hollowed-out design so that the building will fit better with the surroundings," said Huang Huimin, the project's chief architect.
