Shaoxing is building 5G-enabled LED towers for the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, which has been postponed indefinitely.

Besides functioning as base stations that expand Shaoxing's 5G coverage, these 35-meter-tall towers will be also be used to screen Asian Games competitions.

According to local authorities, the towers will be located near Asian Games venues and be ready by the end of June.

China's 5G development has been picking up pace over the years, with 654,000 base stations added in 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in January.

This year, the ministry is committed to promoting the development of 5G applications according to China's "5G + industrial internet" strategy.
