Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province recently announced the city's first batch of six biodiversity experience sites.

"Biodiversity experience sites are specific places that utilize biodiversity resources, equipped with necessary facilities and professionals, to provide various types of activities for experiencing and understanding biodiversity," said an official from the Shaoxing ecological and environmental bureau.

The selected experience sites encompass diverse and unique ecosystems, including mountains, plains, wetlands, and more, offering sustainable value in terms of landscape appreciation, scientific exploration, cultural heritage, and more.

The Jianhu Lake National Wetland Park boasts extensive farmland, lakes, and a rich historical and cultural heritage.

Since 2017, biodiversity in the park has been steadily increasing, with the populations of wildlife and plants growing each year, attracting an increasing number of tourists. According to data from a survey conducted in April this year, there are now 145 species of wild birds living in the park.

The construction of biodiversity experience sites adheres to three key principles:

First, the construction and operation processes should not harm biodiversity or habitats, nor should they cause environmental pollution.

Second, indoor and outdoor experiential facilities and courses should be distinct and fully integrate with local wildlife and plants.

Third, there should be incentives for local community residents to participate in related services by providing accommodation, dining, and related products, providing employment, training, and other social service opportunities, or providing opportunities for visitors to engage in experiential activities and scientific research.
