Shaoxing Ancient City attains provincial 5A status
The Shaoxing Ancient City scenic area has achieved provincial 5A-level scenic area status, marking a significant milestone in its cultural preservation and tourism development.
The announcement came as part of the release of the 2023 list of 4A and above scenic areas in Zhejiang province, with Shaoxing's Yuecheng district making the prestigious cut.
In recent years, Shaoxing has prioritized the preservation and revitalization of its ancient city, aiming to secure UNESCO World Heritage status.
With initiatives like the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Deep Integration and High-Quality Development of Culture, Commerce, and Tourism in Shaoxing Ancient City," the city has strategically promoted its historical and cultural heritage while fostering sustainable tourism growth.
Yuecheng district has focused on enhancing tourism infrastructure and promoting cultural tourism experiences. Major projects like Shaoxing North Ancient City and the Zhejiang East Canal Museum have revitalized historical districts, attracting more visitors and enriching the tourism offerings.
Additionally, innovative integration efforts, such as thematic study tours and intangible cultural heritage tourism, have diversified the tourist experience. The district has also embraced new tourism formats, including tea houses, street snacks, and bars, catering to diverse visitor preferences.
With a notable increase in visitor numbers, totaling 25.5 million last year, Yuecheng district's efforts have borne fruit, contributing to Shaoxing's growing reputation as a premier cultural and tourist destination.
