A new cultural museum dedicated to Shaoxing yellow rice wine opened on Nov 1 in Shaoxing, adding fresh momentum to the city's efforts to become a major destination for yellow rice wine culture and tourism.

The museum, covering approximately 600 square meters, combines the themes of Rippling Jianhu Lake, Festive Jiangnan, and Aroma of the National Brew. It offers a comprehensive overview of traditional yellow rice wine brewing — from soaking and steaming rice to fermentation and sealing — using a combination of real exhibits and digital technology.

One section traces the evolution of yellow rice wine in China, while another explores its connections with Chinese cuisine and traditional medicine. A separate area also showcases the beverage's historical role in state banquets and cultural exchanges.

Visitors can also enjoy immersive experiences. Using AI technology, a large screen brings to life scenes of Dongpu ancient town during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), while 3D holographic projection recreates the brewing process, combining ancient craftsmanship with modern innovation. These interactive displays revitalize the thousand-year-old yellow rice wine culture.

According to a representative from the local yellow rice wine industry association, the museum is the city's second immersive exhibition space, following the launch of a boutique exhibition hall last year.

As Shaoxing's yellow rice wine is now recognized as part of a national historical and classic industry, efforts will continue to elevate it from a regional tradition to a national cultural product — built upon standards, driven by technology, and enriched by culture.
