Shaoxing's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 234.42 billion yuan ($32.89 billion) in the first three quarters of 2025, up 5.4 percent year-on-year.

Driven by a combination of policy and market forces, sales of digital, green, and health-oriented products have surged. Additionally, consumption related to events such as sports is growing in popularity, according to an official from the Shaoxing municipal bureau of statistics.

To boost household spending, Shaoxing has expanded its trade-in initiatives covering home appliances, automobiles, and furniture. In the first three quarters, major retailers saw retail sales soar for wearable smart devices by 577.0 percent, furniture by 371.6 percent, communication equipment by 116.2 percent, and smartphones by 47.1 percent.

Emerging sectors such as pet care and medical beauty have also seen robust growth. Retail sales of sports and entertainment goods, cosmetics, and jewelry rose by 99.1 percent, 13.5 percent, and 10.2 percent year-on-year, together accounting for 8.1 percent of total sales — up 0.3 percentage points from last year.

Since the launch of the ZheBA basketball league, the city has implemented initiatives encouraging nearby restaurants and retailers to offer special promotions linked to game tickets, distributing over 60 million yuan in consumer vouchers.

In the first three quarters, revenue in the city's accommodation and catering sectors increased by 3.4 percent and 9.4 percent year-on-year, with growth rates rising from the first half of the year.
