Shaoxing sees spring travel surge
The 40-day Spring Festival travel rush concluded on March 13, with Shaoxingbei Railway Station achieving record-high passenger volumes. The station recorded 696,000 passenger departures, averaging 17,400 per day — an 8.1 percent year-on-year increase. Arrivals reached 704,000 passenger trips, averaging 17,600 daily, up 8.6 percent. The higher growth rate in arrivals reflects Shaoxing's growing appeal as a tourist destination.
The spring tourism spike quickly followed the break. Since mid-March, passenger numbers have surged, driven primarily by family outings, senior travelers, and study tour groups. Railway authorities anticipate sustained popularity along high-speed rail routes such as Shanghai-Nanjing and Shanghai-Hangzhou, with ancient towns and suburban villages along these lines attracting increasing hordes of visitors.
As a favored destination in the Yangtze River Delta region, Shaoxing is drawing more weekend visitors via high-speed rail, leveraging its rich cultural heritage and convenient rail network.
