A heartfelt handwritten letter from an international student expressing thanks for the care and kindness she received while being treated far from home has touched staff members at Shaoxing People's Hospital.

Bah Kadiatu Umarr, a student from Guinea studying in Shaoxing, was admitted to the hospital earlier this month after experiencing severe abdominal pain. Following a CT scan, doctors diagnosed her with ureteral stones and recommended surgery.

Knowing it was her first time seeking medical treatment in China, attending physician Dr. Wu Jintao communicated with her in fluent English, explaining her diagnosis, treatment plan and recovery process in detail. He also helped her complete admission procedures, easing her anxiety.

To make her hospital stay more comfortable, the medical team prepared bilingual medical documents, including consent forms and discharge instructions. Nurses used AI translation tools to better communicate and provided one-on-one guidance before surgery, ensuring she fully understood every step of her treatment.

The surgery was completed successfully in just over 30 minutes, and Kadiatu recovered quickly under the team's attentive care.

After being discharged, she returned to the hospital with a handwritten thank-you letter. "Thank you for making me feel at home," she wrote, expressing her appreciation for the doctors' professionalism and the nurses' warmth.

The hospital said the letter reflects its efforts to provide patient-centered care, showing that compassion and understanding can bridge language barriers and make every patient feel respected, supported and welcome.
