Shaoxing's economy grows 6.4% in H1

Shaoxing's economy maintained strong growth in the first half of 2026, with its gross domestic product (GDP) rising 6.4 percent year-on-year to 450.4 billion yuan ($66.46 billion), the second-fastest growth rate among cities in Zhejiang.

Industrial production remained a key driver of growth, with value-added output from enterprises above designated size climbing 10.9 percent, also ranking second in the province.

The city's growth was increasingly powered by innovation and emerging industries. Value-added output in the core digital economy, high-tech industries, and equipment manufacturing jumped 18.0 percent, 17.6 percent, and 17.2 percent, respectively. Production of industrial robots soared 75.2 percent, while integrated circuits rose 17.3 percent.

Retail sales of consumer goods increased 2.9 percent to 166.5 billion yuan. Sales of cameras, wearable smart devices, and smartphones recorded strong gains.

Meanwhile, the city's total imports and exports reached 203.4 billion yuan, up 9.6 percent. Exports rose 8.8 percent, while imports surged 19.3 percent. Exports to ASEAN, RCEP members, and other APEC economies saw strong growth, with shipments to Malaysia, Australia, and Vietnam rising by 83.8 percent, 52.0 percent, and 24.6 percent, respectively, highlighting the city's increasingly diversified foreign trade.

The per capita disposable income of the city's residents stood at 45,406 yuan, up 5.5 percent year-on-year. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents grew by 4.9 percent and 6.2 percent respectively, and the income gap narrowed further.
