Shaoxing has joined the WIPO GREEN China City Acceleration Projects launched by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), becoming the first prefecture-level city in China selected for the initiative, following Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing.

WIPO GREEN is a global platform for the exchange of sustainable technology established by WIPO. It connects more than 130,000 green technologies from over 140 countries with a network of 150 partners and has facilitated more than 1,000 technology matches worldwide.

Through the city acceleration program, Shaoxing will gain access to global green technologies, funding, and intellectual property expertise, helping local businesses expand into international markets while accelerating the city's green transition.

As home to one of the world's largest textile markets, Shaoxing has developed five major green industry clusters: modern textiles, green chemicals, biomedicine, new materials, and integrated circuits. WIPO Assistant Director General Edward Kwakwa praised the city's growing intellectual property ecosystem and its proactive approach to green transformation.

In January, Shaoxing's Regulations on Intellectual Property Protection and Promotion came into effect, marking the first comprehensive local regulation on intellectual property at the prefecture level in Zhejiang.

Looking ahead, Shaoxing aims to connect with the global green innovation network and build a replicable model for the sustainable transformation of traditional industrial hubs.
