Wu Qingfeng, a swimmer from Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, won gold in the women's 50-meter freestyle at the 20th Asian Games in Japan on Sept 24, setting a new Games record with a time of 23.98 seconds.

Wu took the lead from the start and held off her rivals throughout the race, touching the wall first to secure another gold medal for Team China.

Her breakthrough brought joy to her former coach Zhao Meihua at the Shaoxing Sports School, where Wu began her swimming journey. Zhao said she was thrilled to see her former student set a new personal best.

Recalling Wu's early training days, Zhao described her as hardworking and determined, qualities that have remained unchanged throughout her career.

For Wu, the record-breaking victory reflects years of dedication and perseverance.
