Wenzhou in Zhejiang province saw a remarkable surge in tourism during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5. It received 7.97 million visits, with about 3 million overnight stays, generating a total tourism revenue of 5.05 billion yuan ($742.05 million).
Wenzhou Garden Expo Park and Shuomen Ancient Port Site Park emerged as key attractions, receiving 1.16 million and 325,000 visits, respectively.
The Garden Expo Park, featuring 34 city gardens and over 150 events, set a single-day record with 356,000 visits on the first day of the holiday. Highlights included the Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Day on May 3 with traditional woodblock printing and Song Dynasty (960-1279) cultural activities.
The park's night tour mode, opening on May 4, attracted nearly 60,000 visits, enhancing the night economy with stunning light displays.
Shuomen Ancient Port Site Park offered cultural activities such as stamp collecting, markets, night tours, and drone shows, drawing large crowds.
Citywide, diverse experiences flourished. Ruian hosted a camping festival that blended RV camping, paddleboarding, and a music party. Longgang's event featured fireworks and seaside cuisine. Taishun focused on covered bridges, hot springs, and She ethnic culture, with helicopter tours and traditional She ethnic feasts in high demand.
