This fall semester, universities across East China's Zhejiang province have fully rolled out tiered and categorized artificial intelligence general education courses for all undergraduate freshmen, ensuring that students from different majors and institutions have access to tailored AI learning options.

Building a tiered and categorized AI curriculum allows educators to align with the varying backgrounds and foundational knowledge of students while supporting personalized learning needs, said Lan Dengjun, head of the higher education division at the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province.

To date, Zhejiang has launched 25 provincial-level AI general education courses jointly developed by top universities such as Zhejiang University and leading AI enterprises.

Additionally, 66 universities have released over 100 school-specific course resources, responding to institutional strengths and student interests.

For example, Shaoxing University offers the general AI course Python Programming, designed to equip students across disciplines with practical coding skills. Faculty members tailor instruction to align with the distinct academic needs of different majors.

Wu Fei, dean of the Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University, said that it is essential to establish a comprehensive and demand-driven education system that covers all students through tiered and diversified instruction.
