The island, which boasts over 60 percent forest coverage, has centered on four distinctive models that promote a replicable, sustainable approach to green development along China's coast.

As part of China's marine economy, Dachen has developed an eco-friendly aquaculture system that combines environmental protection with industrial upgrading, accounting for about two-thirds of Zhejiang's premium yellow croaker production. Additionally, through its "Blue Circle" initiative, the island has established a comprehensive marine plastic recovery network that turns ocean waste into valuable raw materials, alleviating pollution.

Dachen is also advancing a "zero-carbon island" initiative that incorporates wind power, marine carbon sinks, green hydrogen, and blue carbon finance. The island also operates fully electric public transport and aquaculture facilities, with carbon trading supporting both local development and residents' incomes.

Tourism has further strengthened the island's green economy. By combining its natural landscapes with restored heritage sites, Dachen has developed unique cultural tourism projects. From January to September this year, the island received over 170,000 visits, up 21.85 percent year-on-year, with tourism revenue reaching 151 million yuan ($21.21 million), up 25.83 percent.
