Shuanglin silk damask bags from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, were displayed at the China's Intangible Cultural Heritage Day event during Paris Fashion Week, earning accolades for their unique texture and exquisite patterns.
As a key segment of the official fashion week schedule, the event featured eight Chinese intangible cultural heritage brands and designer teams, presenting over 10 pieces that blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
"The Ice Crack Plum Blossom series of Shuanglin silk damask bags combines traditional ice crack patterns with auspicious plum blossom patterns, symbolizing beauty and harmony," said a representative from Shuanglin town, Huzhou.
Shuanglin silk damask, produced in Shuanglin town and woven from pure silk, is a prized traditional silk product featuring a soft and light texture.
Silk damask, known as ling juan in Chinese, is a general term for damask silk and spun silk. The silks with complex decorative patterns are damask silk and those with plain colors are spun silk.
In recent years, Shuanglin silk damask has embraced innovation while preserving traditional techniques. A range of cultural and creative products incorporating silk elements have been developed, including handbags, screens, fans, kites, and other fashion items.
