Quzhou badminton player shines at World Junior Badminton Championships
The 2025 World Junior Badminton Championships concluded on Oct 19 in Guwahati, India, with China defeating Indonesia 2-0 in the finals and clinching the mixed team title.
Wu Zisheng, a standout player from Quzhou, Zhejiang province, played a pivotal role in securing the prestigious Suhandinata Cup for his team.
Wu, who represented China in the men's singles, advanced to the quarterfinals and showcased remarkable consistency throughout the tournament, with his performance instrumental in China's triumph in the group stages.
Born in 2007, Wu began his badminton journey in 2012 with the Xinyan Badminton Club. Under professional guidance, Wu quickly displayed exceptional talent. By 2014, he was training alongside older peers during their preparation for the 15th Games of Zhejiang Province. His dedication led to his selection for participating in the Zhejiang Provincial Badminton Team's training in 2015.
Wu's achievements include winning the U11-U12 doubles title at the 2019 National Youth Championships and the U12-U15 doubles title in 2020. In 2023, he helped secure the national youth team championship.
Wu's recent victory marks a significant milestone in his career. It also highlights Quzhou's innovative model of fostering collaboration between schools and clubs to build a robust badminton talent development system.
