In recent years, vertical short dramas have rapidly gained traction in the digital economy. Qujiang district in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, previously unconnected with the film industry, has swiftly developed a short drama sector.

A short drama is a very brief and episodic television series, designed for online viewing on mobile devices.

Within a year, Qujiang established a 32,000-square-meter short drama "super factory", marking its entry into this rapidly growing field.

The Meigao Short Drama Super Factory is a hive of activity, featuring modern sets like subway stations and courtrooms. It offers efficient, cost-effective services, along with "one-on-one" support for production teams, as highlighted by Dai Wenxue, the factory's head.

In July 2023, Qujiang partnered with Zhejiang Tianmu Holdings to advance the industry. Within a year, the comprehensive filming base with over 200 sets was operational. Initial challenges, such as equipment shortages, were handled by collaborating with leading suppliers from the Yangtze River Delta region.

To address the shortage of professional talent, Qujiang implemented supportive policies and a three-year action plan for high-quality short drama development.

Between January and September, over 300 short dramas were filmed at the Meigao Super Factory, boosting the local economy and promoting cultural tourism.

By 2025, Qujiang aims for 2 billion yuan ($280.77 million) in revenue, 350,000 visits, and over 2,000 jobs, underscoring its commitment to becoming a major player in the short drama industry.
