At just 14 years old, Zhou Jinwen from Ningbo has become one of China's most promising young Yueju Opera talents, winning national acclaim while amassing millions of fans online.
Zhou's fascination with Yueju Opera began during her childhood. "Whenever we had free time, we'd slip into the crowd at local performances," recalled her mother, Wang. Even as a little girl, Zhou would sit through long shows, humming along quietly, turning her living room floor into an imaginary stage with her toys as the audience.
Recognizing her daughter's talent and passion, Wang enrolled her in professional Yueju Opera and Chinese dance classes at age six. "She would cry while stretching, but never once said she wanted to quit," Wang said.
Zhou's dedication quickly paid off. Less than a year into formal training, she won her first provincial level award. Over the next few years, she continued to shine, performing on China Central Television (CCTV) and earning multiple top honors in youth opera.
Her talents have also earned her a massive online following. On Douyin, Zhou has more than 1.6 million fans and over 32 million likes, with some clips reaching 2.5 million likes each. "I didn't realize I could be this good — so many people actually enjoy my performances," said Zhou, embracing her growing fame with confidence and joy.
