A delegation of diplomats from European Union countries in China visited Deqing county in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, on Nov 25.
The delegation included ambassadors from Denmark, Germany, and Portugal, as well as diplomats from Poland, Belgium, and Croatia. Their visit focused on local sustainable development initiatives aligning with China's development concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
Their itinerary featured visits to Naked Castle Resort, Sunshine Agricultural Eco-Park, and Motan Music Valley, highlighting Deqing's innovative efforts toward ecological sustainability and local prosperity.
During the visit, Deqing's vast bamboo forests, advancements in digital agriculture, and practices in sustainable development sparked lively discussions and praise from the delegates.
Following a tour of Motan Music Valley, a former quarry transformed into a cultural tourism site, Danish Ambassador to China, Michael S. Christensen, praised the effective repurposing of the site. He said that Deqing's sustainable development with green growth and ecological conservation aligns closely with the EU's development goals.
The EU now has numerous cooperative investment projects in Zhejiang province, and there will be more potential cooperation opportunities for both parties in tourism, Christensen said.
As of October 2025, the EU has invested in 370 enterprises in Huzhou, focusing primarily on general equipment manufacturing, automotive parts manufacturing, and chemical products manufacturing.
