Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, located in East China's Zhejiang province, revealed on Jan 5 that its cargo throughput in 2025 surpassed 1.4 billion metric tons.
In addition, the port's annual container throughput set a new record, reaching over 43 million twenty-foot equivalent units, maintaining its position as the world's third-largest container port.
According to the 2025 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port made history by ranking seventh among international shipping center cities worldwide.
A major breakthrough in navigation capacity was achieved in 2025, with the 300,000-ton expansion project of the Tiaozhoumen channel entering trial operation in December. The port boosted its capability for super-large vessels by over 50 percent, enabling the year-round passage of 200,000-ton mega-container ships and the smooth transit of 300,000-ton supertankers during tidal changes.
By the end of 2025, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port had operated 309 container shipping routes, connecting more than 700 ports across over 200 countries and regions. The port maintained its position as the world's second-most connected port, with nearly 300 ships arriving and departing daily.
Additionally, through its container sea freight punctuality and cost-reduction program, the port saved vessels more than 25,000 hours of waiting time and helped shipping companies reduce costs by over 867 million yuan ($124 million) in 2025.
