As the Year of the Horse approaches, zodiac-themed cultural creations from Longquan, a county-level city in Lishui, Zhejiang province, are capturing widespread attention.
Artisans are blending millennia-old celadon and sword-making techniques with zodiac culture and modern aesthetics, energizing the consumer market. Over 20 series of horse-themed products have been launched, with many already in short supply.
Celadon items are particularly sought-after. Longquan Oujiang Celdon's popular series, featuring designs inspired by Dunhuang murals, has been overwhelmed with orders for its elegant and practical daily-use items.
Similarly, a young artisan's celadon tea set and porcelain artwork, both adorned with hand-carved horse motifs symbolizing good fortune and bright prospects, have seen remarkable sales, with thousands of sets sold and production accelerating to meet festive demand.
Innovative works continue to attract a diverse array of consumers. Studio creations range from gifts combining calligraphy with celadon art to playful figurines that also function as phone stands.
Sword-themed cultural products are equally popular. Among traditionally robust designs, a compact miniature sword serves as both a desk ornament and a pendant.
A creatively designed sword-shaped refrigerator magnet in vibrant red and gold has also garnered a considerable following, especially among female customers.
