Demand for traditional festive decorations has surged both domestically and internationally ahead of Spring Festival, making intricately crafted bamboo lanterns from Anji county in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, a favorite for Chinese New Year festivities.

In the production workshop of Zhejiang Fenghui Bamboo and Wood Products in Anji, workers are busy crafting bamboo lanterns destined for overseas markets, including a new order from Spain.

"We're currently producing a batch of Chinese-style bamboo lanterns, including red lanterns and blue-and-white porcelain-patterned lanterns, to enhance the festive spirit," said Zhou Wenguo, the production manager.

As Spring Festival approaches, the workshop is bustling with activity, with a daily output of around 500 sets of lanterns, primarily for export to Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. January sales have increased by roughly 30 percent year-on-year.

In the finished goods warehouse, there are stacks of Chinese-style bamboo lanterns. Customs official Hu Yuxuan and his colleagues meticulously inspect each lantern to ensure compliance with international export standards.

Anji county is now home to over 500 bamboo and wood product exporters. To facilitate swift customs clearance, Huzhou Customs has implemented an innovative model integrating on-site and online inspection, allowing for seamless coordination with companies via video link. This ensures that these lanterns, carrying festive blessings, can illuminate Chinese New Year celebrations worldwide.
