Quzhou Port, located in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, has reported a remarkable increase in port throughput in the first quarter, with cargo throughput hitting 2.59 million metric tons — a 19.2 percent increase year-on-year, leading the province — and container throughput reaching 10,100 twenty-foot equivalent units.
This success is due to Quzhou Port's strategic enhancements in infrastructure, route expansion, and service optimization.
The port now operates 33 navigable routes, covering 33 cities across seven provinces in China. The newly launched "Quzhou Port-Jiaxing Zhapu Port-Ningbo Zhoushan Port" foreign trade container route provides stable schedules and efficient connections between inland and coastal ports.
Vessels from Quzhou Port's Qujiang port area now transit through coastal ports to global destinations, offering efficient export channels for local enterprises.
The port has diversified its cargo from coal and sand to over 30 categories, including wood pulp and steel. It is developing a shipping service hub in Longyou port area to integrate logistics, trade, and warehousing.
Ongoing upgrades, including technical renovations and smart terminal transformations, have enhanced the port's docking, loading, and storage capacities. Cargo handling efficiency has increased by over 30 percent, with the port now accommodating 20 vessels daily and a throughput of 18,000 tons.
In addition, Quzhou Port's innovative system, integrating a credit whitelist with the prioritized passage of the locks, reduces waiting times for foreign trade vessels to under 24 hours.
