A selection of marine intangible cultural heritage works from Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was presented at the "Picturesque Zhejiang" (Brunei) Thematic Special Exhibition in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, on April 21, highlighting the region's culture and strengthening cultural exchange.
The exhibition, which marked the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Negara Brunei Darussalam, featured multiple sections showcasing Zhejiang's maritime history and contemporary development.
The Zhoushan exhibition area attracted steady visitor interest, with audiences engaging closely with the exhibits. Many local visitors encountered such marine art forms for the first time and showed curiosity about their craftsmanship and cultural background.
The city contributed dozens of exhibits across six major categories: traditional fishing rope knots, fishermen's paintings, fish rubbing art, paper cutting, shell carving, and pyrography, offering a concentrated display of its ocean-based cultural heritage.
Interactive sessions were also arranged, during which Zhoushan's two artisans demonstrated fishermen's painting and fish rubbing techniques. Visitors participated by coloring pre-drawn patterns on fans and creating their own works under guidance, gaining hands-on experience with traditional skills.
In addition to heritage displays, the exhibition presented images and videos of Zhoushan's modern marine industries, including mussel farming and port operations, illustrating the integration of traditional culture with a developing maritime economy.
