The Green and Sustainable Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Ningbo underscored a shift from energy-focused cooperation toward a broader sustainability agenda.

The forum opened in Ningbo on April 29, marking SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan's second visit to the city. He also attended last year's SCO Energy Ministers' Meeting held in Ningbo.

Khan noted that this year's forum has a significantly expanded scope, extending discussions beyond energy to broader issues of sustainable development and green transformation. He described his return as "exciting", highlighting China as an important hub for international cooperation in emerging green industries.

Khan pointed out the uneven levels of economic development across SCO members, stressing that while some countries are more advanced, others still require support. He argued that this makes coordinated and equitable cooperation essential for long-term progress.

He added that China's experience in development planning and its strengths in green technologies could help accelerate low-carbon transitions across the region. The focus, he said, should be on shared progress and on ensuring that all members benefit fairly from environmental opportunities.

Reflecting on his two visits, Khan described Ningbo as a strong platform for dialogue and cooperation and expressed hope that future partnerships would deliver practical, sustainable results grounded in equality.
