Jia Jinxin, once a photographer from Yongkang in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, has become the guardian of a secluded "paradise" in Wuyi county, breathing new life into Wannei village, an abandoned hamlet in Baimu township, through his unique approach.

Jia discovered the village by chance in 2023. Enchanted by its bamboo-covered mountains, sprawling tea trees, and pristine streams, he decided to stay. Having visited over 50 deserted villages in Zhejiang, he found this one, nestled near the 4A-rated Dahongyan scenic area, to be a perfect retreat. Although no residents remain, Jia has become its guardian.

Over three years, he has transformed an old house into his idyllic retreat, rebuilt water reservoirs, constructed a tea pavilion, and cultivated a garden. Despite living alone, he finds joy in rural life — raising geese, tending plants, brewing tea from mountain spring water, and welcoming guests.

Before retreating here, Jia was a photographer. Now, he shares his lifestyle as a content creator, attracting viewers with his rustic videos. Many have been drawn to visit this rejuvenated village.

Wannei, once silent, is now alive with the fragrance of tea, hosting many parties. Last November, a tea gathering was held in its bamboo forest to promote local osmanthus black tea.

Jia envisions integrating cultural elements such as Taoist wellness, photography, and yoga, creating a haven themed around tea and seclusion culture.
