Jiaxing Garden is drawing crowds at the 15th China International Garden Expo with its immersive display of Jiangnan (southern regions of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River) water-town culture in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, running until July.
Covering more than 2,000 square meters, the garden recreates a miniature version of Jiaxing's landscape. Its design emphasizes the city's cultural character rather than simply replicating its physical features.
Daily attendance has surpassed 3,000 visits, with more than 5,000 recorded on opening day, April 15. Visitors can enjoy a mix of live performances and interactive craft displays.
A key feature is the blue-printed cloth exhibition area, where traditional textiles are repeatedly sun-dried and displayed as part of daily preparations. Nearby, a themed market offers Jiaxing specialties, including zongzi (glutinous rice with various fillings wrapped in leaves) and handcrafted textile products. Many tourists showed strong interest in items such as umbrellas and sachets made from blue-printed fabric, which combine traditional dyeing techniques with modern design.
The site also serves as an educational space. Student groups from Wenzhou have participated in cultural programs that introduce Jiangnan gardens, canal layouts, and traditional crafts. Interactive installations allow children to explore urban water systems through digital simulations, while hands-on workshops teach them how to make scented sachets using herbs such as mugwort and lavender.
