Global human rights experts explore woodcarvings, rural vitality in Jinhua

Human rights experts and officials from around the world visited Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 9 as part of the Human Rights Action in China 2026 Zhejiang Tour.
The delegation visited Xinguang village in Pujiang county, where they experienced an innovative model combining youth entrepreneurship and cultural tourism. Stalls at the village entrance displayed local intangible cultural heritage products, drawing interest from the visitors.
Former Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid admired the craftsmanship of the cross-stitch pieces and, after learning about their cultural significance, purchased three horse-shaped works.
The group also enjoyed a bench dragon performance, watched local artists demonstrate calligraphy and painting, and sampled local delicacies like pear syrup and tofu specialties.
At Dongyang Woodcarving Town in Dongyang county-level city, the delegation learned about the town's rich woodcarving history and industrial development.

Known as the "World Capital of Woodcarving," Dongyang is home to more than 1,300 enterprises specializing in woodcarved home furnishings and gathers many master artisans, workshops, and leading companies.
At Xia Lang Woodcarving Studio and Zhejiang Shangxi Furniture, the delegation witnessed the industry's transformation from traditional craftsmanship to modern home customization, leaving a lasting impression through its exquisite artistry and strong industrial foundation.
