Mao Dun Literature Week opens in Wuzhen
The 2026 Mao Dun Literature Week commenced at the Wuzhen World Internet Science and Technology Museum in Wuzhen town of Tongxiang in East China's Zhejiang province on June 15, coinciding with the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mao Dun, the prominent Chinese writer, and the presentation ceremony of the fourth edition of the Mao Dun New Talent Award.
Renowned literary figures, scholars of Mao Dun studies, and Mao Dun New Talent Award winners from across China gathered in this picturesque town for a literary journey that bridges past and present, with literature as its sail and technology as its wings.
The "Mao Dun Digital Humanities Map" AI Guide Project was officially launched, linking key sites such as Mao Dun's former residence, Lizhi Academy, the Memorial Hall of Chinese Left Wing Writers' Union in Shanghai, and his Beijing residence. Using digital technology, the project vividly recreates literary history, making the life and spirit of the renowned Chinese writer more tangible and interactive.
Since its inception in 2023, Mao Dun Literature Week has become a significant cultural brand in the Yangtze River Delta and beyond. The event has evolved from its initial focus on the Mao Dun Literature Prize to fostering young writers and promoting literary engagement nationwide.
Running from June 15 to 19, the 2026 Mao Dun Literature Week blends tradition with innovation, literature with technology, and heritage with the future. It will extend its reach from professional venues to campuses.
