Four Russian international sailors explored the island county of Daishan on June 14, getting a closer look at its maritime culture and traditional craftsmanship through an immersive cultural exchange program.
The sailors visited the Lanxiu Culture and Art Museum, where historical photographs and exhibits taught them about Daishan's history, fishing traditions, and the century-long transformation of Zhoushan from a fishing community into a modern port city.
"I was able to appreciate Daishan's rich history and the traditions that continue to shape daily life here. I'm very happy to have had this opportunity," said a Russian sailor.
The group also experienced the traditional craft of lacquer bead making, a local intangible cultural heritage technique. Under the guidance of artisans, they took part in polishing, finishing, and weaving processes before creating their own handcrafted lacquer bead accessories.
"We really enjoyed today's cultural exploration," said another Russian sailor. "Making these beautiful lacquer beads ourselves was both fun and memorable."
