The race saw a head-to-head showdown between Yu Yiting and her close rival, Yu Zidi. From the start, the former established a lead, outpacing Yu Zidi by 0.5 seconds in the butterfly stroke. As the race progressed into the backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle legs, Yu Yiting widened the gap.
Finally, Yu Zidi secured second place with 2:09.33, while Hubei's Ke Wenxi took third with 2:10.99.
Yu Yiting's record-breaking time of 2:06.82 is competitive on a global scale, closely rivaling the 2:06.69 set by Paris Olympic champion Summer McIntosh at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
