Zhou Le, a 20-year-old student from Ningbo Technician College, won gold in the heavy vehicle technology category at the 2026 Australia Global Skills Challenge and was named the best competitor of the Chinese team.

The competition is widely regarded as a key preparatory event for the WorldSkills Competition, with assessment standards closely aligned with those used at the global contest.

In the heavy vehicle technology category, competitors were required to complete diagnostics, repairs, and adjustments across six systems within 18 hours, including engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, steering and braking systems, and air-conditioning units. Vehicle models were not disclosed before the competition.

Zhou said the event brought together top competitors from Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Working entirely in English, he had to quickly adapt to unfamiliar vehicle models and technical requirements.

He said the experience strengthened his technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and ability to perform under pressure, while helping him identify areas for further improvement.

Zhou has been selected for China's team for the 48th WorldSkills Competition and will compete in the heavy vehicle technology category in Shanghai this September.

Heavy vehicle technology is a traditional strength for Ningbo. In 2022, Jiang Xinhua won China's first gold medal in the category at the WorldSkills Competition Special Edition, with Ningbo Technician College having since been designated as China's national training base for the event.

The Australian competition featured 33 categories and attracted 450 competitors from 16 countries. China won six gold medals, one bronze, and two Medallions for Excellence.
