A three-year biodiversity survey at the Hynobius Amjiensis National Nature Reserve in Anji county, Huzhou, Zhejiang province, has been completed, with the reserve recording an average of 392 species per square kilometer, the highest among China's national nature reserves.

The survey, launched in July 2023, covered a wide range of biological categories, including bryophytes, vascular plants, vegetation, macrofungi, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and insects. Notably, it was the first time bryophytes and macrofungi were surveyed in the reserve.

The survey documented 4,869 species, including 342 bryophytes, 1,592 vascular plants, 327 vertebrates, 2,156 insects, and 452 macrofungi.

It also identified two new species and 1,214 species recorded in the area for the first time, including nine newly recorded in Zhejiang and 452 newly recorded in Huzhou.

The project produced seven reports and multiple research papers, covering topics such as Longwang Mountain's unique biological resources, butterfly diversity and habitat monitoring, biological resource application, macrofungi studies, and insect diversity research.

These findings enhance the reserve's biodiversity database, supporting its conservation efforts and offering a model for similar surveys across the province.
