Scientists Pan Jianwei and Lu Chaoyang from Dongyang, a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, were honored at the 18th You Bring Charm to the World Global Chinese Awards ceremony, held on Aug 12 in Beijing.

Organized by Phoenix TV with international Chinese media, the awards have previously honored figures like Qian Xuesen and Yang Zhenning.

As a distinguished quantum physicist ‌and ‌an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Pan's decades-long commitment was highlighted at the ceremony. In 2016, he launched the Micius Satellite for quantum science experiments, bridging theory and reality in quantum communication and elevating China to a leadership position in quantum information science.

This achievement not only represents a technological breakthrough but also paves the way for future exploration in the micro-world.

Lu is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China and president of the World Association of Young Scientists. In 2020, he and Pan's team developed the "Jiuzhang" quantum computing prototype, achieving optical quantum superiority for the first time. This May, their "Jiuzhang 4.0" managed 3,050 photon quantum states, reinforcing China's lead in quantum computing.

Lu, via video, said this honor belongs to generations of Chinese researchers in quantum science, who rely on foundational innovation to illuminate the future.
