The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has approved Zhejiang Geespace Technology Co Ltd to conduct a two-year commercial trial of satellite Internet of Things services.

The approval is the first of its kind in Zhejiang. During the trial, Geespace may provide IoT connectivity with broad coverage, low power consumption, and high reliability through the first phase of its Geely Future Mobility Constellation.

Satellite communications can complement terrestrial networks in areas with little or no ground coverage, including at sea, in deserts, and in remote mountains.

Founded in 2018, Geespace has completed the first phase of its low-Earth-orbit satellite IoT constellation. It has introduced commercial applications in areas including intelligent connected vehicles and marine fisheries and has partnerships with telecommunications operators in more than 20 countries.
