Shuanglin silk damask bags from Nanxun district, Huzhou, Zhejiang province, were showcased at ZUCHEX 2026, the International Home & Kitchenwares Fair, held in Istanbul, Turkiye, from Sept 9 to 12.

The event featured more than 1,500 brands and drew professional visitors from over 120 countries. The Shuanglin silk damask bags attracted inquiries from international buyers, with some discussing potential cooperation.

Shuanglin silk damask, produced in Huzhou's Shuanglin town and woven from pure silk, is a prized traditional product known for its soft and light texture.

Traditionally used in mounting Chinese paintings and calligraphy, Shuanglin silk damask has long been associated with traditional craftsmanship. The craft of making Shuanglin silk damask is recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item in China.

The bags were designed by Zhang Zhifang and jointly developed with a Shanghai brand, expanding the traditional textile into fashion and everyday products.

In recent years, Shuanglin town has developed products including handbags, screens, traditional Chinese round fans, kites, and clothing featuring silk damask.

It plans to continue developing cultural and everyday products while offering study tours and hands-on experiences related to the traditional craft, according to an official from Shuanglin town.
