Hengdian film event to boost China-Africa exchanges
The 2026 China-Africa Film and Television Cooperation event will be held from Oct 22 to 24 in Hengdian, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, bringing together Chinese and African film professionals, scholars, and young creators for technical exchanges and industry visits.
This year marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations. The event aims to utilize Hengdian's film industry cluster to deepen cultural exchange and industrial cooperation.
The event features five key components: an opening ceremony, screenings of outstanding works, a film review competition, an AI film technology exchange, and visits by African filmmakers to Hengdian.
Six African films, two African short films, four China-Africa AI short films, and two documentaries on China-Africa themes will be screened from Oct 15 at universities, including Zhejiang Normal University. Chinese productions will also be broadcast in Africa to promote two-way exchanges.
An AI film technology exchange on Oct 23 will focus on AI computing power, film models, and content co-creation, screening an AI short film titled "Africans in Hengdian."
The film review competition, running from Sept 20 to Nov 20, also invites college students, film lovers, and creators to join the exchange.
African film professionals will also tour Hengdian's high-tech virtual studios and shooting bases to learn about its production models and industry ecosystem.
